Position Title: Bus Driver

 

  1. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Bus drivers are responsible for providing safe and timely transportation of the district’s students. Additionally, bus drivers are also responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle(s) assigned and for submitting the necessary paperwork.

 

  1. POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:

Recruited by and reports to: Transportation Director and Superintendent

Wages: Set annually by the Board of Education

Number of days employed: Every day students are transported to and from school and on days requested to drive to school activities.

Sick Leave: none

            Work Day: AM routes are typically from 6:30 to 8:15, PM routes 3:00 to 4:45

Activity Trips: Trips will be assigned by the transportation director

            Pay: Paid by the route for AM/PM routes. Paid by the hour for activity trips.

            Incentive Pay: $500 after you drive your 10th route or trip and $500 after 6 months

                        $500 incentive pay in Sept. & Jan. for returning regular drivers

                        $250 incentive pay in Sept. & Jan. for returning substitute drivers

 

III.       POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required experience and training: Nebraska School Bus Drivers License with appropriate endorsements for vehicle(s), good eyesight, good health, and a good driving record.

Annual physical: Must pass an annual physical

Desired experience and training: Driving experience with large vehicle and ability to positively interact with and control students

Criminal Background Check: A criminal background check shall be conducted prior to hiring and at any time as deemed necessary once employed.

 

  1. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  2. Drive in a safe and legal manner
  3. Observe all city, state, and federal laws relating to school buses
  4. Safely transport students of various ages and backgrounds
  5. Maintain established time schedules and follow established routes
  6. Control student behavior consistent with school district policies and procedures
  7. Attend designated meetings, training sessions, and workshops as requested
  8. Daily inspect assigned vehicle for defects and report vehicle condition to the bus mechanic
  9. Clean route bus on a regular basis (inside and out).
  10. Clean inside of activity buses after each trip
  11. Schedule vehicle for maintenance as needed
  12. Complete necessary reports as instructed
  13. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the transportation director
  14. Walk the entire bus after each route/trip….check for students
